San Diego website design

San Diego Web Design With Real San Diego Roots

GSL Design spent years in San Diego, building websites for shops, contractors and manufacturers across the county. Today we’re based in Yuma, and San Diego businesses are still a big part of our work: custom sites designed to stand out in a crowded market and turn visitors into calls.

How can we help?

Tell us what you’re looking to improve.

What do you need?

Step 1 of 3

Signs it’s time

Signs your website is falling behind in San Diego

  • It was built for a different version of your business

New services, a bigger crew, a new area, a new price point. If the site still describes the business you were five years ago, it’s selling the wrong thing.

  • It disappears next to bigger competitors

San Diego has no shortage of businesses with polished websites and marketing budgets. A dated site makes you look smaller than you are.

  • It doesn’t explain where you work

“Serving San Diego” tells a customer in Santee or Carlsbad almost nothing. People want to know you come to them.

  • It makes customers work to contact you

A phone number in the footer and a long form on one page loses people who are ready to call now.

Website design is more than how it looks. 44 sec.

What you get

Custom websites for San Diego businesses

Every site is designed around your business, your customers and how they buy. For our full approach, see custom website design.

Our roots

Years in San Diego. Still close by.

After years in San Diego, GSL Design relocated to Yuma in 2024 and now serves businesses across Arizona and Southern California. Greg began building websites in 2003 and founded GSL Design in 2004.

We know the county isn’t one market

A customer in Escondido, one in Chula Vista and one in El Cajon search differently and expect different things. Your site should reflect where you actually work.

We’ve built for San Diego’s kinds of businesses

Trades and home services, automotive and off-road, manufacturers and online stores.

We’re still close

Yuma is a few hours east on I-8, and every project runs on video calls, shared previews and direct access to Greg. If a project needs an in-person visit, Greg can make the trip.

Our work

San Diego County websites we’ve built

Rhino Custom Builds homepage on desktop, with an outfitted off-road truck and a quote button

Case study · Truck & off-road shop

Rhino Custom Builds, San Diego

A truck and off-road shop whose site was product-heavy while the business also sold installation, custom builds and consultation. We reworked the homepage and user experience so services sit alongside products and connected browsing to consultation and installation booking.

Fiberwerx homepage on desktop, with a vehicle selector above an off-road truck

Case study · Ecommerce catalog

Fiberwerx, El Cajon

A fiberglass and carbon fiber manufacturer for off-road and aftermarket vehicles. We restructured the Shopify catalog around vehicle fitment, with a year/make/model selector and clear “fits / doesn’t fit” states on every product.

RD Hydrojet East homepage showing its plumbing services, service vehicle and estimate-request form.

Case study · Plumbing

RD Hydrojet Plumbing & Drain East, East County

A plumbing company serving El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, Lakeside, Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, Rancho San Diego and Alpine. We built service and service-area content with a prominent phone and estimate path on the homepage.

Rhino Custom Builds, San Diego: The client reported a 75% increase in conversions from the same traffic volume after launch.

What happens next

From first message to launch.

  1. 1. Project Brief

After you reach out, we’ll ask a few focused questions about your goals, audience, timeline, budget and what the site needs to do.

  2. 2. Strategy Call

We’ll talk through the project, clarify the best path forward and decide whether Quick Launch, a landing page or a custom business site makes the most sense.

  3. 3. Design & Build

Once the quote is approved, we’ll design and build the site with clear progress updates and review points along the way.

  4. 4. Launch & Support

After approval, the site goes live. We’ll help with launch details, tracking, performance and support after handoff, as agreed in your scope.

Custom builds: typically 4–6 weeks.

Larger websites and ecommerce builds typically take 6–8 weeks. Your project timeline is confirmed with the scope.

Quick Launch: 3–5 business days of production.

Production starts once complete materials and the deposit are received. Client review and payment delays extend delivery.

Process

How a San Diego website project works. Four clear steps.

You have one point of contact from the first call to launch, and you always know what happens next.

  1. 01

    Strategy call

We learn your services, customers and goals, and look at the San Diego competitors you’re up against. You get a fixed-price proposal.

  2. 02

    Content & wireframes

We plan the message and layout page by page, including the service-area content for the parts of the county you cover.

  3. 03

    Design & development

You approve the design before we build. Then we develop it on WordPress or Shopify with a private preview link.

  4. 04

    Launch & handoff

We test every page, form and phone link, launch, and train you on updates. A care plan is there if you want us to handle it.

Timeline: Most business websites take 4–6 weeks. Larger sites and ecommerce builds take 6–8. Quick Launch goes live in 3–5 business days.

San Diego web design questions

The questions San Diego business owners ask before a project.

How much does a website cost?WordPress vs ShopifyDo I need a new website?

Are you based in San Diego?

Not anymore. GSL Design spent years in San Diego and relocated to Yuma in 2024. We still work with San Diego County businesses, with the same direct access to Greg. If a project needs an in-person visit, Greg can make the trip.

How much does a website cost in San Diego?

It depends on pages, features and content. The price box above shows our packages, and every project starts with a fixed-price proposal, so you know the full cost before work begins.

How long does it take?

Most business websites take 4–6 weeks. Larger and ecommerce builds take 6–8 weeks. Quick Launch sites go live in 3–5 business days.

Do you build ecommerce sites?

Yes, on Shopify and WooCommerce. Fiberwerx in El Cajon is an example. See ecommerce websites.

Can you redesign my current site without losing my Google rankings?

Yes. We map your existing pages and redirects before launch so the rankings you’ve earned carry over. See website redesign.

Do you work outside the city of San Diego?

Yes, across the county, from North County to the South Bay and East County, and into Riverside County. Our RD Hydrojet project serves Murrieta and Temecula.

Will my new website rank on Google?

It launches with SEO foundations in place. Ranking for competitive San Diego terms takes ongoing work; see San Diego SEO.

Can I update the site myself?

Yes. We build on WordPress or Shopify and show you how.
